When a reigning monarch stays in a little hotel, that is an honour. When he comes back for a second visit, you know that hotel is really special. Such is the case with Casa Do Sear.

There's an elaborate coat-of-arms above the door and the lintel is inscribed 1742, yet this lovely old building dates back much further, right back to 1591! The recent restoration has preserved all the character and overlaid it with modern comforts. Ranged around an inner courtyard with a baroque balcony, the hotel has six guest rooms plus a sitting room and a dining room. Beyond that Casa Do Sear has 10,000m2 of grounds with lawns, terraces, sunloungers, tables and chairs, and a variety of outdoor games equipment. Furthermore, there is an orchard vineyard and kitchen-garden.

The six rooms at Casa Do Sear are named after rare Galician birds. Each one is decorated to make full use of the original features (especially the massive stone walls) and each has an en-suite bathroom, heating, telephone, music and television. With thick stone walls like these, air-conditioning is not necessary. The rooms have embroidered sheets, wooden hangers, a full set of towels and bathrobes, as well as individual soaps and a hair dryer. Extra beds or a cot for a baby are available.

The hotel lies just a short distance from the coast of the Ria de Pontevedra. This whole western-facing coast of Spain is a paradise of islands, deep bays, forests and carefully managed natural parks.
