It appears that our hosting company were carrying out some upgrades which should have resulted in an outage of no more than 5 or 10 minutes. Then it all went pear-shaped and we lost the lot for over eight hours. Our host’s websites were down too and even their telephones, so it was a bit frustrating. We eventually discovered that they were reporting via Twitter, just minutes before the service was restored.
