Now an elegant and luxurious four-star hotel, Iriarte Jauregia is an 17th century palace near San Sebastián that was completely restored in 2009. It is positioned on a plain that is surrounded by farmhouses, forests and mountains in a small village in the centre of the Guipúzcoa province. As you enter the grounds, protected by a large stone wall, you get a sense of anticipation at the palace's grandeur. This is not usually disappointed when the quality of the restoration work is seen: various stone walls and archways and refined wooden beams exude such effortless class, precisely because much effort has been put into them.
The four-star hotel provides an expansive space in which to enjoy a relaxing break, but this is also a great, unexplored part of Spain. While many go for the more obvious resorts, the north of Spain has much to offer in the way of natural beauty, interesting cities, and it's very close to France, making a day trip there more than possible.
The superior double rooms are a good choice with their high ceilings, and there is one very large suite that can also be used to communicate with a meeting room if required.
Meals
The living room/ dining area is where a fresh and mixed buffet breakfast is served, with bread and baked patisseries, homemade jam, cheeses, cold meats, seasonal fruits and various tortillas. Weather-permitting, breakfast can be taken out on the terrace, surrounded by nature.
Dinner is based on traditional Basque Country cooking. The hotel is also delighted to make culinary recommendations for places to go in the region.

The hotel is an authentic palace, very nicely restored, luxurious, comfortable and pleasant. Everything is super clean and very new. The surrounding area is also very pretty. The personnel are close by and ready to help and you can tell that they go to personal lengths to help. They do everything possible (and more) to make you feel comfortable. |
We liked: the tasteful way with which the hotel owners have restored it, the decor in general, the lovely staff, excellent breakfasts, the tranquility of the surroundings in general and the hotel in particular. |
I really liked the location and peace and quiet.. and all this close to the city. |
