Posada La Plaza
, Plaza del Generalisimo, Canillas de Albaida.
The carefully restored XVI century Hotel Posada La Plaza stands in the heart of Canillas de Albaida, one of the "pueblos blancos" - the white villages of Andalucia. A few miles back from the coast near Nerja, the village is perfectly situated to enjoy both the beaches and the mountains of this beautiful region.
Within the hotel, a blend of Moorish architecture, local craftsmanship and traditional decoration gives each room an authentic Spanish feel with all the modern comforts that clients expect; and because the hotel is located in the central plaza of the village, this is also an ideal location for those wanting to experience the charms of a traditional Spanish village in the heart of the Andalucian hills.
The hotel has 1 suite, 2 family rooms and 6 double rooms. There is a small sitting/reading area, a mini-spa with jacuzzi, turkish bath and sauna, plus a large roof terrace offering panoramic views of the surrounding Sierra Almijara and Tejeda Natural Park.
All eating and drinking is provided by the hotel's own 'Restaurante La Plaza', which is well-known locally for its superb Spanish cuisine, tapas and fine wines. This gives visitors a real sense of joining in with the local community.
The surrounding area is well known for its breathtaking scenery, abundant wildlife and the relaxed Spanish way of life, and therefore offers guests not just a place to chill out, remember and return to, but also a superb base for outdoor activities or simply for experiencing the Spain beyond the Costas.

Reviews from Little Hotels Travellers:
Our priority in booking was to find a little traditional hotel at the right price that would accommodate our family on the last two nights of our trip to Andalucia. Sometimes you tend to take the information given on websites on the cautious side, but what a very pleasant surprise we had when we arrived, that all that is written is true. The presentation of the hotel is absolutely excellent, the cleanliness of the rooms was something the larger chains could learn from. The food in the restaurant was superb and our children were readily accommodated with their requests of more straightforward meals plus we have one young vegetarian who was very pleased with the dishes available. We were made to feel most welcome. Our family room provided enough space for our 3 young children in the connecting bedroom which was a significant advantage. What we didn't know was that we were arriving in "fiesta" time and what a celebration the village was having with the Proprietor having a key role in the square's celebrations as we arrived. We wouldn't change a thing even when the fireworks were going every hour through the night. We would have loved to stay longer and visit in Spring or Autumn to take advantage of the walks available. It may be worth noting a couple of things in your information just in case people get caught out: In Fiesta time car parking is a premium (and probably at any time of year) so you can end up quite away from the hotel - so find the hotel first and then decide which bags to take (particularly after the foam dies down!). We only noted one "yellow" sign to the hotel which is slightly unclear which route you have to follow to the square as you enter through narrow alleyways which is somewhat confusing to the first time visitor. We did come across a couple of other people trying to find the square. Perhaps a little sketch map may be useful or the hint on the hotel's website should be used in your direction instructions "On foot follow the small street "Calle Poema Miguino" into the main La Plaza square". Mind you we were aided as we just followed the Fiesta music. Your first drive to Canillas de Albaida from the motorway may take longer than the ambitious 30 mins. Unfortunately we had to make a fairly early getaway to the airport 7am and breakfast is not till 9am, admittedly we did not ask for anything to be put aside which I'm sure would have been made available to us had we have asked. What a fantastic experience, a place we hope won't change, it is definitely a place we'd love to visit again. I'm adding to my husband's remarks... I agree with everything, but would like to add that on the Sunday morning the owner did not arrive until 10.30 to provide breakfast (it was supposed to be from 9am) - presumably because he was fiesta-ing until 5am!!!! whilst I understand his need to party, I don't really think it is any way to run a hotel!!!! and maybe he could have anticipated his hangover and made alternative staffing arrangements... a minor point really, which didn't spoil our stay, just delayed us somewhat for our day trip |
Here's What Some People Have Written On Other Review Sites or in the Guestbook:
We have had a great time. Thank you for making our trip such a memorable occasion - we'll certainly be back with family and friends |
What a wonderful place. The rooms and the food in the restaurant were absolutely fabulous and your attention to detail was greatly appreciated. We'll certainly pass the word around in the US! |
'Experience the real Spain' and we did! The local fiesta was fantastic and we all really enjoyed our horse riding trip as well. Gracias y Adios |
I wanted to let you know that our stay at the Posada la Plaza was one of the highlights of our trip! It was very nice, clean and well priced..........the rooms were adequate and its location is fantastic.......we far preferred our stay in the Pueblos Blancos to any stay in the larger cities. I might also add that the owners were very pleasant, friendly and accommodating. K. |

We Say
Isn't this what everyone wants of a holiday in Spain? Far from the madding crowd, yet close enough to drive down to the beach each day if you want. You can really taste Spain here, literally and metaphorically. Exceptional value for money too.
A Word from the Owner
Our passion for rural Spain and client satisfaction has enabled us to transform three traditional XVI century houses in the main square of Canillas de Albaida into an authentic and very charming rural hotel in the Andalucian hills which we personally run today. We sincerely hope you will visit us and look forward to seeing you soon.
