Finca La Principal
, Camino de La Glorieta, nº 16, Breña Alta, La Palma.
The area known as Buenavista de Arriba rests on the mountainside above Santa Cruz de La Palma, enveloped in a riot of abundant flowers and vegetation. It's here that we find Finca La Principal, a traditional Canarian guest house surrounded by its own garden of colourful flowers and palm trees. The finca dates back to 1512 and the house has gone through numerous transitions over the years, yet still retains an old-world ambiance typical of the Canaries.
All the guest rooms are wonderfully spacious, with double beds, sofas, antique furniture, wooden floors and more, all adding up to a typically Canarian experience. The standard rooms have a shared bathroom, while the King Suite has an en-suite bathroom and a galleried balcony overlooking the garden. All the rooms have bathrobes, a hairdryer, free toiletries, garden and mountain views and access to the garden and terrace.
Outside, the gardens are spectacular at any season, and there are places to sit, read, or prepare a barbecue. Along the verdant flowers and greenery, you may occasionally meet up with the resident ducks and peacock.
Owners Eglé and Jorge are keen naturalists and walkers so they like nothing more than advising their guests of places to see and visit on the island, especially the places usually known only to the locals. They can also arrange just about every imaginable activity from massages, to cycling, walking, diving, horse riding, canoeing and fishing. The capital of the island is only a short distance away (via 25 hairpin bends!) and it's also a relatively short distance to the Caldera de Tamburiente.
